Paul Cézanne (Paul Cézanne, 1839-1906) is a famous French painter, a representative figure of the late Impressionist School, and an important painter between Impressionism and Cubism. Since the end of the 19th century, it has been regarded as the "father of new art". As a pioneer of modern art, Western modern painters called him "the father of modern art" or "the father of modern painting". His pursuit and expression of the sense of volume of the object opened a lot of ideas for the "cubism". Its unique subjective color is greatly different from most painters who emphasize the objective color sense

Paul Cezanne was born and died in Aix, and is a descendant of a small craftsman and a small businessman who originated in Piedmont. He first went to primary school and St. Joseph's school. Because his father had good luck and changed from a hat store owner to a bank manager, he was sent to middle school. In 1858, Paul graduated from high school with solid basic knowledge, complete religious beliefs and sincere friendship with classmate Mil Zola, passed the liberal arts graduation exam, and entered the University Law School according to his father's wishes.

In 1859, his father purchased the garden of Rédebéon built by Marquis de Villars in the seventeenth century near Aix, and took his wife, son, and two daughters there to escape the summer heat. Paul arranged his first studio in the villa. He has decided his own future.

Although Cezanne was influenced by the Impressionism that was the mainstream of painting at that time, he was able to lighten the effect of light on different texture surfaces, but he always insisted on paying attention to the structure and substance of the object, and gave up the impression in 1877. Doctrine. In the early days, Cezanne used realistic techniques, real and difficult situations as the subject of painting. In the later years, the style of painting has changed, leaving many gentle, bright and rich landscapes and scenery paintings with classic and solemn atmosphere.

Most of his works are the embodiment of his own artistic ideas, showing a solid geometric sense, ignoring the texture and accuracy of the modeling, emphasizing the sense of thick and steady volume, and the overall relationship between the objects. Sometimes they even give up individual independence and authenticity in order to seek harmony in various relationships.

Starting from Cezanne, Western painters began to describe nature in realism, began to express themselves, and began to appear in various forms of formalism schools, forming a trend of modern painting. Cezanne's artistic method of pursuing formal aesthetics provided guidance for the modern oil painting genre that appeared later. Therefore, in his later years, Cezanne was respected by many painters who were keen on modern art and called him "the father of modern art". Throughout his life, he pursued the form of expression and created new creations in the use of color and modeling. He was called "the father of modern painting".

Among the nineteenth-century painters who can be regarded as prophets for exploring painting in the twentieth century, Cezanne is the most significant in terms of achievement and influence. He is a lonely person who is rarely understood. He struggled all his life, fighting for the idea of using paint to express his essence of art. These concepts are rooted in the great tradition of Western painting. In terms of inclusiveness, they are even among the most revolutionary concepts in art. In Cezanne ’s long history of art development, all painters focused on the reproduction of objective objects, but the painter himself became a slave mimicking nature. However, Cezanne gave up the traditional artistic concepts and rules, completely relied on his own independent observation to create, consciously turned his attention to express his subjective world, through generalizations and trade-offs, to describe objects from a structural point of view. It is precisely because the subjectivity of Cezanne's painting has changed the entire process of Western art, and has produced conceptual shock to his subsequent artists. This shock has led to the complete emancipation of artistic thought. It can be said that modern art started from Cezanne.
