John Singer Sargent was born on January 12, 1856 and died on April 14, 1925. John Singer Sargent was an American painter and one of the leading figures in portraiture at the time. Sargent created about 900 oil paintings, more than 2,000 watercolor paintings and countless charcoal sketches throughout his life. John Singer Sargent was born in Florence in 1856. Sargent ’s mother was an amateur artist, and his father was a medical illustrator. Encouraged by his mother, the young Sargent began to learn painting. In 1874, Sargent was admitted to the French Academy of Fine Arts to study painting. Sargent met the French artist Paul César Helleu. Under the introduction of Eller, Sargent met the artistic masters Edgar Degas and Claude. Monet (Claude Monet), James Abbott McNeill Whistler (james abbott mcneill whistler) and others.


In 1877, Sargent ’s portrait of Fanny Watts caused a sensation. The portrait of teacher Carolus-Duran created by Sargent in 1879 was recognized by the public. After 1890, Sargent also created some frescoes on religious subjects.


John Singer Sargent ’s early works were mainly influenced by the impressionist style, and later he learned the style of the Spanish painter Velazquez. When Sargent held a solo exhibition in New York in 1924, he did not even want to take a second look. In April 1925, John Singer Sargent died with his regrets in his creation. Although Sargent's achievements were once ignored by people with his death, they were gradually recognized by people and became a representative figure in the history of British and American paintings together with Whistler.
