Ivan Konstantinovich Aivazovsky, an Armenian Russian painter, is famous for his seascape paintings. After returning from Italy in 1844, the Academy awarded him the title of academician. The painter Ivan Konstantinovich Aivazovsky painted about 6,000 works in his lifetime, almost half of which were oil paintings. The studio in Feodosia where he was located was an art center in southern Russia at that time, training many outstanding painters

On July 29, 1817, Aiyazovsky was born in Armenia, a merchant family in the city of Feodosia near the Black Sea in the former Crimean peninsula in southern Russia. Ancestral surname Aiwajiang, his father was a small businessman, once lived in southern Poland, changed his surname "Gevazovsky", it sounds a bit like the Polish surname. "Gai" means "Armenian". In 1841, he and his brother, who was engaged in literary translation, changed the surname back to "Aiva River", sometimes using the Russianized "Aivazovsky".

Ivan Konstantinovich Aivazovsky was the third son of the family, the original name was "Ovanes", and "Ivan" was later changed to the Russian name. A local architect discovered that he had painting skills and recommended him to a technical school.

In 1833, Aivazovsky was admitted to the Petersburg Academy of Fine Arts and entered Vorbyev's studio. After the French painter Tanier came to Petersburg, he had a decisive influence on the young Aivazovsky. Tanier is good at painting rivers and lakes. He once took Aivazovsky as an apprentice and taught him how to paint the sea.

In 1836, Aivazovsky exhibited five sea views at the Academy Exhibition, which was highly praised by the public opinion.

In 1837, he was awarded the Gold Medal and the title of "Painter" for two paintings, "The Calm and Smooth Seas of the Gulf of Finland" and "The Great Berth of Kronstadt".

In 1838, Aivazovsky returned to Feodosia, back to the shore of the Black Sea, and began to make a living by painting. Draw sketches in the open air and complete the work in the studio.

In 1840, Aivazovsky received a study abroad fee from the Petersburg Academy of Fine Arts and went to Italy, Germany, France, and the Netherlands to study and investigate. He has held several art exhibitions abroad, which are quite popular and the sales are gratifying.

In 1844, after returning home, the Petersburg Academy of Fine Arts awarded him the title of academician. At the same time, he was employed by the Russian Navy Department as a full-time painter. In 1845 Aivazovsky returned to his hometown of Feodosia and built a large, large studio for himself. Since then, he no longer went out to sketch, but painted with his amazing memory and imagination.
